Your money is better spent on a good computer. I like the soundgrid network and i/o options. If this was half the price and 20db quieter I might recommend it. The other problem is that it is LOUD, LOUD, LOUD. Like I said, a good computer will out perform this server while running a DAW. In the studio this thing is out of the question. Waves recommended that I buy a second one and run it as a redundant server. Just one instance of H-reverb crashed the server on multiple occasions. It also does not play nice with big reverb plugins like H-reverb. I had to run it at 1.2 ms (it measured closer to 3ms). If you want to run waves plugins on your live rig, check out a creation station and run multirack native.Īlso the latency claims are unrealistic. The problem is that you will still need a computer to run multirack, and most similarly priced computers will blow this out of the water when it comes to processing power.
They are built like a tank and they can run quite a few plugins (at 48k). This seems like a pretty cool solution for running waves plugins with your live rig.

I will definately agree with the previous reviewer, the fans are pretty loud and I couldn't imagine them actually inside of a small project studio if recording is done in the same room - that's why 4.5 instead of 5, plus she's a little on the pricey side!įrom Tennessee on FebruMusic Background: Musician, Producer, Recording/Live Engineer, Hack Our processor utilization usually run around 35-40%. We usually run one instance of h-reverb, one of h-delay, and one Reel ADT. Our total setup has about 8 vocal channels with 7 or 8 plugins on each, four drum tracks with 3 plugins each, 4 guitar tracks with 4 or 5 plugins each, a bass with 3 plugins, and about four stereo keyboard modules each with about 4 plugins. We've had no problem using the extreme server with H reverb, though we're only using one or two instances of it. We use a Digigrid D as a soundgrid interface off of the mix bus for various waves effects. That gave us rock solid 32 in and 32 out through multirack. We changed over to a Behringer x32 board with a waves card. We had a pretty high performance computer, but the sample settings needed to keep latency where our drummer could play with in-ears was absolutely strangling it. We had a Presonus setup for a long time, but had difficulty running multirack native with acceptable latency. This server is incredible - allowed us to use all of our plug-ins live.
